Abstract

AbstractThis paper highlights the role of integrated pest management (IPM) in sustaining productivity in the future. It discusses the three mandates (economic, environmental and social) that should be addressed in assuring sustainability of agricultural productions systems. Several resources and topic areas that will make essential contributions to sustainable agricultural systems and effective IPM strategy in the future are identified, including diagnostic tools, weather forecasting, transgenic plants, biological control and chemical pesticides. Recommendations are given to meet the challenges posed by pest adaptation and to overcome the constraints to IPM adoption.
