Abstract

More than one million people with end-stage kidney disease are currently dependent for their continued survival on renal replacement therapy. Dialysis is costly and far from perfect. Five-year survival on the treatment is lower than that for colon cancer. Despite this, the evidence base for current practice patterns in dialysis is alarmingly thin.
