Abstract

Building upon the orthodox Christian belief on the impossibility of preaching, this essay draws from a rather unorthodox source to structure the philosophical limits of preaching’s impossibility. The sources under consideration are those of the eminent French intellectual and social critic Georges Bataille. Drawing in particular upon Bataille’s thinking of inner experience, the ineffable, the wound, and the erotic, this essay articulates an approach to Christian proclamation that takes Bataille’s insights seriously.
