Abstract

An analytical expression describing equilibrium spheroidal deformation of a charged drop exposed to parallel aerodynamic and electrostatic fields is derived based on the principle of minimum potential energy of a closed system in the equilibrium state. The expression relates eccentricity of the spheroid to the electrostatic field strength and the streamlining flow velocity.
