Abstract

Abstract Elevated cholesterol levels in adults are predictive of cardiovascular disease (CVD). In addition, drug trials to lower cholesterol levels in adults have demonstrated a reduction in the risk of morbidity and mortality from CVD. While children with elevated cholesterol levels have been shown to be at increased risk for elevated cholesterol levels as adults, long-term studies of children and adolescents with elevated cholesterol levels have not been conducted to show that elevated childhood cholesterol levels are predictive of adult CVD.
