Abstract
Russia has announced ambitious development plans for its Arctic zone, but they inevitably involve environmental risks for which the Russian Arctic is not always prepared. These are climate change, pollution of marine waters from oil and chemical compounds, and degradation of the ecosystem. The ideas relating to plans to develop the Arctic region and, above all, the construction of offshore fields should be revised, taking into account the environmental hazards, which should resonate not only with environmental organizations but also with economists. The current moment is economically and politically unfavorable for this activity.
