Abstract

AbstractThe use of the Enneagram for psychological and spiritual growth has increased enormously in the past two decades. First used in Jesuit retreat centres in the US, it soon spread to other spiritual centres throughout the US and Britain. The profound impact of using the nine personality types to understand self and others is now being used by businesses, therapists, and in health care settings. Even though people now sit around the table and discusses their type with others in ordinary conversation, much as we might talk about our astrology signs, the Enneagram is much deeper and more complex. It shows us a way to awakening and remembering that we are aspects of the Divine. At its deepest level the Enneagram, as taught by Riso and Hudson, show us a path for personal and spiritual evolution. This paper explores the origin of the Enneagram, the Enneagram types and how they respond when under stress and when moving towards wholeness. It emphasises the Levels of Development and ways in which we can personally grow as identified by Riso. Copyright © 2003 Whurr Publishers Ltd.
