Abstract

The energy spectrum of primary cosmic-ray protons of energy (4÷16) GeV has been determined using nuclear emulsions flown simultaneously from Texas (U.S.A.) and Hyderabad (India) on March 27, 1962. The method depends on the determination of the flux of protons at the two stations from observations made on the number of nuclear disintegrations induced by relativistic singly charged particles in a given volume of the exposed emulsions. An integral energy spectrum of the formN(⩾E)=C/(m0c2+E)γ has been fitted to the data and the value ofγ determined as 1.42±0.11.
