Abstract

Energy levels of Co 56 were calculated using Yukawa and finite-angular forms for the residual proton-neutron interaction. The shell-model (1f 7 2 −2, 2 p 3 2 ) configuration was assigned to the ground (4 +), 0.164 MeV (3 +), and 0.984 MeV (2 +) levels. The (1 f 7 2 −1, 1 f 5 2 ) configuration was assigned to the 1.47 MeV (2 +) and 1.74 MeV (1 +) levels. It was predicted that the level at 0.560 MeV is predominantly (1 f 7 2 −1, 2 p 3 2 ) 5 + , and that those at 0.825, 1.008 and 1.105 MeV are (1 f 7 2 −1, 1 f 5 2 ) 5 +, (1 f 7 2 −, 1 f 5 2 ) 3 + and (1 f 7 2 −1, 1 f 5 2 ) 4 + , respectively.
