Abstract
In response to Kruglanski's (1977) comments, the rela tionship between endogenous (Kruglanski, 1975) and correspondent (Jones & Davis, 1965) attributions was re-examined. It was concluded that correspondent attribution yields the inferences that Kruglanski derived from endogenous attribution, and that the two attribution processes are conceptually similar. It was also suggested that the type of behavior being attributed deter mines the attributional standards that will be used, those of endogenous or correspondent attribution, as opposed to those of internal-external attribution. Finally, a distinction was made between the use of the endogenous-exogenous distinction as a model of attribution and as a theory of cognitive motivation.
