Abstract

The articles in this special issue provide a comprehensive summary of accomplishments, lessons learned, and hopes for the future that are based on the Robert Wood Johnsons Foundation's (RWJF) Futures of Nursing Scholars (FNS) program. While these articles come at the end of a significant multi-year $25 million dollar investment, the impact of the program on individual scholars, faculty, and institutions will be long-lasting. The program certainly didn't address all issues confronting nurses and doctoral education, nor did it fully address decades of debate on substantive and process questions impacting for doctoral education – but it did ignite many a conversation as well as action.
