Abstract

The book of Daniel has always exercised a powerful and sometimes occult. attraction upon students of the Bible. For many centuries interpreters, some reputable, some otherwise, have sought to use it as a calendar of events to come, including the end of the age. This is true today, when it can be shown to contain predictions identifying, to the very day, Jesus's triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem on the Sunday before his crucifixion. Not only that, it can be made to predict the emergence of a major coalition of nations (the European Economic Community) as well as a seven-year countdown to the end of the world which can be subdivided into successive events involving the resumption of traditional Jewish sacrificial worship in Jerusalem and the appearance of a political leader who appears friendly but later turns vicious.
