Abstract

The article discusses research in plant biology and invasion biology as of March 2013, with a focus on the Asian citrus psyllid insect, its transmission of the disease huanglongbing, and the disease's effects on the U.S. citrus industry. Topics include the bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter, how the bacteria disrupt plant circulatory systems, and how scientists have imported Asian wasps to combat psyllids. Additional information is presented on the potential genetic modification (GM) of citrus plants and public opinion of GM crops.
