Abstract
In keeping with H. L. Goodall’s articulation of the “new ethnography,” I write into the tension I feel as I approach the end of my academic career. I consider the question of whether or not to retire by offering conflicting narratives organized under the headings of hanging on and letting go. Framed as a familiar life script, I search for a satisfying narrative that will hold still.
