Abstract

ABSTRACTThe second edition of the OED (1989) differs from earlier versions in format, form, substance, and especially its invisible electronic base. Future revision of this greatest of English dictionaries should strive, not merely to include more words, but to correct and up‐date the information in entries and to make the dictionary truly international in its editorial languae and usage labels.
