Abstract

Introduced by Paul Baran in the early 1970s, the very small aperture terminal (VSAT) has become one of the most important communication tools used today. The concept behind this marvellous invention is to create a small-size satellite station and combine it with low-cost electronic equipment to maintain very precise frequency, phase, and time synchronization with a satellite, which is located 22,300 miles above the equator. Since 1991, Hughes has been providing low cost, fast installation, and reliable VSAT service to the public as well as to private sectors in China.
