Abstract

Abstract This article analyses the Spanish diplomatic network c.1700 through a study of the correspondence generated by the embassy of The Hague held in Spanish and Belgian archives. It demonstrates how the monarchy possessed procedures and resources for the effective management of external information, allowing it to integrate and distribute the knowledge necessary for decision-making. The article closely examines the practices of ministers when handling state matters and reacting to crises, such as that of the Spanish succession.
