Abstract

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors of the smooth muscles of the uterus that are the most common indication of hysterectomy in the America with over $34.4 billion annual cost. Risk factors include age, hypertension, diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, black race, early age of menarche, nulliparity, obesity and a genetic factor comes in place.

Introduction

Known as myomas or uterine fibroids (UF), are benign tumors of the smooth muscles of the uterus. Not originally intended to be used for the treatment of fibroids, some studies such as Kailasam, et al have reported good results with significant reduction in the size of the UFs [22,23]. The mechanism of action responsible for how cabergoline shrinks fibroids is unclear and it seems as though combining cabergoline with aromatase inhibitor did not make a significant change to the effects of reduction of the size of UFs [25].
