Abstract

For most surgical pathologists (and some gynecologic pathologists) encountering cases of gestational trophoblastic disease or possible molar pregnancies is an unpleasant experience, rooted in the fact that these cases are relatively uncommon and have complex, often overlapping, histologic features. To complicate matters the ancillary testing algorithms can be confusing and not widely accessible. This talk will discuss these lesions, with emphasis on histologic features unique to each lesion and will present a practical framework on how to approach ancillary testing and reporting of these difficult lesions.
