Abstract
This article is the first in series that will focus on the 12 activities of living ( Roper et al, 1990 ). As healthcare assistants and assistant practitioners (HCAs and APs), understanding the essential elements of care is the foundation for practice, shaping how patients and families are offered care and support. This article discusses the 6 Cs and the elements of nursing. An introduction to the Roper, Logan and Tierney model of care is also provided.
