Abstract

This work is the author's thesis written as a candidate for membership in the American Ophthalmological Society. It was published as a separate book for this Society. It is recommended reading for all ophthalmologists. Clinicians without research training should not let the title discourage them from reading this book. It is short and written in relatively nontechnical language. Dr. Breinen reviews many aspects of the normal and abnormal physiology of the extra ocular muscles in relation to data obtained by modern electrophysiologic methods. This book is written with special reference to electromyography. All ophthalmologists need to know the indications and limitations of the technique. For those who wish to apply it to patients, Dr. Breinen has written a section on instrumentation and techniques.
