Abstract

The electronic transition dipole moment of the B0+u→X0+g transition in molecular iodine has been determined in the range 2.633≤Rcentroid≤6.035 Å. We have measured a decrease of ‖μ̄e‖2 of about 4 orders of magnitude, perhaps the largest variation of ‖μ̄e‖2 yet observed in a molecule.
