Abstract

The electronic structure of poly( p-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) has been studied using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). The experimental results are in excellent agreement with the results of model quantum chemical calculations based upon the valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) method. The excellent agreement between theory and experiment enables a detailed description of the electronic structure, and the subsequent comparison of the present results with previous results in the literature.
