Abstract

The occupancy of higher electron energy levels under optical excitation is obtained by solving the Pauli master equation. The shift in peak positions with reducing average particle sizes L 0 for the PL spectra from nanoscale Si particles and luminescence centers in the oxide layer is different. The critical scale is estimated under a definite excitation. The critical scale is not a fixed size at which the PL intensity from Si and LCs equal to each other. On the contrary, it decreases for stronger excitation.
