Abstract

Ionization and/or excitation in the L-shell of Mg vapour has been produced by electron impact (energies between 1 and 30 keV). The spectrum of the emitted electrons with energies between 18 and 52 eV has been investigated with an electrostatic energy analyser at an energy resolution of 0.3% with certain segments measured at 0.09%. Absolute energies and relative intensities of the lines have been determined. In addition to the L23-M1M1 Auger transition arising from a single 2p hole and the L1-L23M1 Coster-Kronig transition arising from a single 2s hole, several satellite lines have also been observed.
