Abstract

Near the plasma frequency, where nonlocal optics at metal surfaces must be considered, we calculate the inner fields by means of the hydrodynamic approximation. Comparisons to microscopic model calculations and to results from the RPA specular reflection model show excellent agreement. We discuss the frequency dependence of the photoyield and conclude that the onset of plasma waves in the low density tail of the surface charge density is responsible for the large surface photoyield just below the bulk plasma frequency.
