Abstract

This paper presents the results of a comparative analysis for the three designs of electrical machines with different content of composite materials. Full electromagnetic and thermal calculations using finite element methods are given, specific characteristics are determined, and efficiency is estimated. It is revealed that the electrical machine completely consisting of composite materials possesses 73% less weight in comparison with the electrical machine consisting of traditional materials. The efficiency for a fully composite electric machine was 92%, which confirms the promising use of composite materials in electrical machine assemblies. Thermal analysis given in the work confirms the full performance of a fully composite electrical machine.
