Abstract

The electrochemical corrosion behavior of pure Cr has been studied under solid NaCl deposit in water vapor at 600°C. The results showed that the electrochemical corrosion reactions act in synergy with the chemical corrosion reactions in the overall corrosion process. The corrosion of pure Cr follows the electrochemical reaction preceding chemical reaction (ce mechanism). The percentage contribution of the electrochemical reactions in total corrosion is not very significant (about 4.7%) However, the electrochemical reactions accelerated the corrosion rate of pure Cr significantly.
