Abstract

The adsorption and oxidation of acetaldehyde at polycrystalline platinum in perchloric acid solution was studied by in situ SNIFTIR-spectroscopy. Carbon dioxide and acetic acid were identified in the thin layer as soluble oxidation products in concentrated acetaldehyde solutions. At low acetaldehyde concentrations, only CO2 was observed.
