Abstract

Electrocardiograms and vectorcardiograms were recorded simultaneously from a patient with varying degrees of left bundle branch block. It was found that a slight degree of left bundle branch block is unrecognizable as an abnormality either in the electrocardiogram or in the vectorcardiogram (tetrahedron, cube, Frank). A slightly greater degree of left bundle branch block is not recognizable as an abnormality in the electrocardiogram but produces a definitely abnormal horizontal vectorcardiogram when the cube system is used. The latter, however, is not distinguishable from vectorcardiograms seen in some anteroseptal infarcts. Varying slight degrees of left bundle branch block may produce a series of electrocardiograms that can be mistakenly interpreted as showing acute anteroseptal injury followed by ischemia.
