Abstract

The notion of “elasticity of structured surface liquid layers” has been introduced and considered in detail for the first time. It is shown to be reasonably connected with the thermodynamics of condensed matter, allowing the logical derivation of the general equations for the surface tension of liquids and solids which had been impossible before.
