Abstract

The congenital dislocation of the hip in children is usually treated with immobilization of frog-leg cast after manipulated reduction. Recently the modified frog-leg cast has been used more and more, because it becomes partial immobilization for the hip and more comfortable for the patient. But it can not regulate the position of the femoral head in the aceta-bulum. Thus we have designed a device which consists of regulation rod and screw traction. The congenital dislocation and subluxation of the hip can be gradually reduced by the use of this device with elastic screw traction and then the femoral head may be concentrically seated within the acetabulum. With the application of this device we have so far treated 52 patients (66 hips) with congenital dislocation of the hip. Their age is 1 (6/12) -(2/12) years old, the success rate comes up to 95 .4% . The results are encouraging. However, the incidence of cbsed reduction of the hip has been markedly raised. While the open reduction obviously decreased. Nowadays those patients who suffer from such diseases can be treated in ambulance. We have made some improvements on the procedure of reduction and saved time and money as well as recurrence.
