Abstract
An analytical comparison is made between elliptical and circular reflectors used in a twin flashtube cavity for solid state laser pumping. Results show that the transfer efficiency is reasonably independent of cavity radius. Calculations for a constructed laser using the proposed circular reflectors given the drop in efficiency to be only 5% which agrees with measurements to within the experimental error. This easily constructed design also gives good uniformity of pumping.
