Abstract

The efficiency of a conventional silicon solar cell has been determined experimentally for two light sources: a tungsten-halogen lamp and a He-Ne laser beam. On the basis of these results, the efficiency of the solar cell is estimated for another two light sources: first, a hypothetical light source where the intensity of the emitted light over the spectral range of 300–1100 nm is constant and secondary for solar radiations. The results obtained show that the efficiency of the solar cell depends to a great extent upon the spectral distribution of the incident radiation.
