Abstract

Summary. Two small studies designed to assess the usefulness of transillumination for testing tooth vitality are described. The results suggest that transillumination is a useful adjuvant to conventional methods of pulp vitality testing, particularly in assessing anterior teeth, or posterior teeth with minimal restorations. The value of combining the results of thermal tests with ethyl chloride and transillumination tests was also investigated, and found to be useful.
