Abstract

Background: The BokSmart programme aims to improve the safety of all South African rugby union (‘rugby’) players. Exercise-based interventions have successfully reduced injury risk profiles, such as Functional Movement Screening (FMS), in many sports. Thus, BokSmart developed an exercise-based intervention – the Safe Six. This intervention was designed to improve the injury risk profiles of rugby players ultimately. However, before testing this intervention on rugby players in a real-world setting, it was important to first test the intervention efficacy under controlled conditions in healthy active adults.
