Abstract
The efficacy of sealing pits and fissures as a caries-preventive measure, as found in published studies, and the historical background of the sealants are reviewed. Available evidence shows that the sealing of pits and fissures is an effective preventive measure, and reports indicate that the use of one agent reduces caries incidence from 65% to 99%.
