Abstract

Summary Zinc sulphate (22, 44 or 88 mg/kg; given i.p. 48 h before experiments) reduces the histamine found in the gastric secretion of stressed pylorus-occluded rats; the incidence of gastric glandular ulcers, the secretory volume and the total acid output are also lowered. The dose-related changes are associated with increased histamine levels in the stomach wall. These findings imply a relationship between reduced gastric histamine release and ulcer prevention by zinc sulphate.
