Abstract
Excessive hyperplasia,hypertrophy and dysfunction of airway smooth muscle may be one of the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma (asthma).In addition to the distinct role of Vitamin D in bone and calcium metabolism,Vitamin D may regulate the proliferation and contraction of airway smooth muscle.Besides,Vitamin D plays a pivotal role in immunoregulation of asthma.Those may influence the pathophysiological process of asthma,including airway inflammation,airway remodeling and so on.This review summarizes the effects of Vitamin D on airway smooth muscle in asthma.
