Introduction

The United States hosts over one million international students annually who are learning English as a second language (ESL). This is more than any other nation. Like many others around the world, these students have been dramatically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study seeks to understand the effect of this pandemic on ESL students in an intensive English program at Brigham Young University’s English Language Center and their teachers in the western United States.
