Abstract

A key feature of the ultra-wideband (UWB) technique is the very narrow pulses used to transmit information. In much of the literature, analysis of such UWB systems is usually under the assumption that synchronization has been achieved between the receiver and the transmitter, whereas actually it is impossible. In this paper, the effects of synchronization timing error on the performance of UWB systems are investigated. A new monocycle shape based on the wavelet is presented whose spectrum meets the FCC spectral mask. The dependence of multiple-access UWB system performance on monocycle shape is investigated. The autocorrelation of the monocycle shape is the important factor that influences system performance.
