The effects of Ruan Mai Ling on the remodeling of cardiac fibrosis in SHR

Abstract

To observe the effects of Ruan Mai Ling (RML), one of the Chinese traditional herbal compositions, on the remodeling of myocardium in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Design and methods Thirty-six male SHRs at 12weeks of age were randomized into 4 groups: high dose RML treated group (RH: 3mlkg−1d−1), low dose RML treated group (RL: 1mlkg−1d−1), untreated control (SHR), losartan treated positive control (LOS: 10mgkg−1d−1). Age matched WKY served as normotensive control. Systolic blood pressure was examined by the tail–cuff method at the beginning of treatment and after 12weeks of administration.
