Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of physiological variables on common mood disorders in Iran. Materials and methods: Mood disorders and schizophrenia were studied by DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, based on which a form was prepared and completed based on symptoms. Patients were selected with the contribution of a psychiatrist and the consent form was delivered to the immediate family members for taking blood sample (10cc). Ten patients with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, comorbid schizophrenia or obsessive-compulsive and bipolar disorder were selected, from which 40 blood samples were delivered to the hospital lab and after a few days the results were prepared and analyzed. Results: According to the statistical analysis of the results, no significant difference was found between white blood cells count and schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, comorbid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Although, there was a significant relationship between red blood cells count and bipolar disorder and comorbid schizophrenia, no significant difference was observed between schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. The study of physiological variables also showed that there is no significant relationship between uric acid, urea and schizophrenia, comorbid schizophrenia, schizoaffective and bipolar disorder. A significant relationship was observed between creatinine and schizophrenia, but there was no significant difference between creatinine and schizoaffective disorder, comorbid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder Conclusion: According to this study, physiological variables used in this study cannot alone be appropriate diagnostic criteria for mood disorders, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and comorbid schizophrenia, and given various papers it can be concluded that genetic study is one of the most accurate ways to identify and prevent these disorders.
