Abstract

It is human’s basic desire that he improves his life quality to maintain happy and healthy life throughout his life. Therefore, they participate in exercises to maintain healthy and happy life before death. This study aimed to analyze the effects of personal traits and exercise participation on well-dying and life quality of the male elderly. This study collected total 361 samples with 292 participating and 69 non-participating elderly males in exercise from Seoul, Daejeon City and Kyunggi Province. The questionnaire was composed with 6 questions on personal traits, 4 on exercise participation, 12 on welldying, and 9 on life quality. To verify research subjects, Analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results of this study were as follows. First, the elderly with higher academic background had higher physical and mental health of life quality. The married elderly had higher social health than the divorced and estranged. The wealthy elderly had higher physical and mental health than the economically deprived and wealthless in economical state. In physical condition, the elderly with high physical condition had higher physical and mental health than the one with very bad. The elderly participating in exercise had higher physical and mental health than the non-participating. Second, the elderly exercised during 3 hours had higher physical and mental health than the one during 1 hour, and, according to exercise period, the one had done less than 1 year had higher physical health than the one more than 15 years. Third, among sub variables of well-dying, death anxiety had negative effect on physical health, and, preparation for death, necessity of education for preparing death, and acceptance attitude for death had positive effects on mental health. On social health, preparation for death and acceptance attitude for death had positive effects, and death anxiety had negative effect.
