Abstract

The review and evaluation of orders is one of the three major activities of the order review/release (ORR) function. Review and evaluation of orders has the objective of identifying and holding back the release of problem orders. This paper investigates whether partial order release and component reservation provide reasonable short-term options for managers to consider when addressing problem orders related to material availability. These procedures are examined within the context of a simulated multistage production-inventory system using MRP for planning. The results indicate that partial order release provides a more attractive option than component reservation.
