Abstract
1. 1. Pantothenate and pantoate inhibit the growth of trypanosoma lewisi in vitro. Salicylate alleviates this inhibition. 2. 2. Pantothenate, injected into rat, stimulated growth of the trypanosomes early in the infection. There was no detectable effect on ablastin and the immune response. The inhibition of reproduction and the crisis occur at the same time as in infected control animals. 3. 3. Pantoyltaurine, taurine and para-aminobenzoate do not alter the growth of the trypasomes in vitro or vivo. 4. 4. the significance of these data is d iscussed with respect to the metabolism of T. lewisi.
