Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of orthodontic treatment on cheek fullness in adult women. Methods Pretreatment and posttreatment frontal and lateral photos of 40 adult female patients were dealt with masking method. Both orthodontists and general populations were asked to assess their cheek fullness by rating 1 to 10 points. Results 1.There is no statistical difference in evaluating the fullness of the cheeks between orthodontists and general population. 2. After treatment, the cheek fullness decreases by 0.53 points. (P<0.05) 3. Cheek fullness decreases both in extraction and non-extraction cases. Posttreatment fullness showed no statistical difference between extraction and non-extraction cases. Conclusions Orthodontic treatment can result in decreased cheek fullness in adult women. Posttreatment fullness were similar in extraction and non-extraction cases.
