Abstract

In this global competitive environment, effective leadership style is necessary to reduce the attrition rate. It is only possible to achieve the productive goals of an organization through effective leadership styles. Leadership styles have effect on the employee performance and productivity; management practices and its performance are mainly based on different styles existing in different culture because the practices are not unique, different techniques, also approaches and management styles differs. This research follows a survey design, and the analysis is based on primary data generated through a structured questionnaire which was administered on respondents. Statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data. The independent variable was Leadership Style (Democratic, Autocratic and laissez faire), and the dependent variable was firm's performance. Cronbach alpha for this work showed a sign of internal consistency at 0.8. Furthermore, it was discovered that leaders with democratic characters account for more difference in performance than both autocratic and laissez faire. This work summarizes and analyzes the leadership styles and effect on quality of work life in some organizations in Nigeria.
