Abstract

When HVT vaccinated chickens were challenged with JM-V and JM leukosis strains, there was a parallel in the leukemic mortality of the former within 2 weeks and the development of tumors by the latter up to 20 weeks postinoculation or exposure. There was an inverse relationship between HVT dosage in vaccinated chicks and mortality due to subsequent JM-V challenge. There was a greater degree of protection by HVT vaccination in susceptible lines of chickens than in resistant lines as determined by JM-V challenge.
