Abstract
A comparative study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of H 2 O 2 and AQ on wheat straw pulping. The alkaline pulping liquor was a mixture of Na 2 CO 3 and NaOH at the ratio of 7 to 3. The addition of 0.1% AQ to the cooking liquor reduced the alkali consumption by about 34% and decreased the Kappa number by about 20 units. By contrast, the addition of 3% H 2 O 2 increased the alkali consumption by about 25% and did not increase the degree of delignification. The addition of AQ resulted in more selective delignification while the addition of H 2 O 2 is less selective. Na 2 CO 3 /NaOH/AQ process (AP-AQ) is found suitable for pulping of wheat straw, producing a high yield bleachable grade pulp.
